Evan Bouchard Signs Two-Year Extension with Edmonton Oilers

Contract Worth $7.8 Million Over Two Years

Bouchard Given Increased Responsibility and Production on the Oilers

EDMONTON, Alberta -- The Edmonton Oilers have signed restricted free agent defenseman Evan Bouchard to a two-year contract worth $7.8 million, the team announced on Thursday.

Bouchard, 23, has been a key contributor on the Oilers' blue line since being acquired in a trade with the New York Islanders in 2020. Last season, he set career highs in goals (12), assists (29), and points (41) in 79 games.

"Evan has taken on a greater role with our team and produced," said Oilers general manager Ken Holland. "We believe he has the potential to be a top-pairing defenseman in this league, and we're excited to have him under contract for the next two years."

Bouchard's new contract carries an average annual value of $3.9 million. He was scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1, 2024.
